Syra Madad, D.H.Sc., M.Sc., CCM is a nationally recognized leader in public health and special pathogen preparedness and response. She is Senior Director of the System-wide Special Pathogen Program at New York City Health + Hospitals, the country’s largest municipal health care system that oversees special pathogen preparedness and response efforts in 11 acute care hospitals, in addition to acute/long-term care facilities. and outpatient sites. She is currently an assistant professor in the Graduate Program of Biotechnology/Biodefense at the University of Maryland and a senior lecturer at the National Center for Ebola Training and Education (NETEC), funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR). In addition, Dr. Madad is a fellow of Alumni in Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity at the Center for Health Safety at the Bloomberg School of Public Health in Johns Hopkins. Dr. Madad obtained her PhD in Health Sciences with a concentration in Global Health from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Science in Biotechnology with a concentration in Biodefense and Biosecurity.
He has a solid academic background, teaching in graduate, undergraduate and professional programs with courses ranging from advanced microbiology to bioterrorism and biosecurity. Dr. Madad has held several faculty appointments, including Assistant Professor, Vice President and Director of Education for several academic institutions at MD, NY and TX. Dr. Madad has several peer-reviewed articles, and has been a guest speaker at numerous scientific and medical conferences/workshops/seminars around the world. She was recently cited in the Wall Street Journal on pandemic preparation along with other national public health figures. He is a member of more than five editorial boards and advisory committees and councils, nationally and internationally.
