Who is Matthew Wolff? Matthew Wolff (born April 14, 1999) is an American professional golfer. He was an NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State University. He won The Carmel Cup, OFCC Fighting Illini Invite, Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in 2018 and The Amer Ari Invitational, Valspar Collegiate, NCAA Division I individual championship in 2019 as amateur. Wolff turned professional in June 2019 and made his professional debut at the Travelers Championship. On July 7, 2019, Wolff earned his first PGA Tour victory at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota.

Wolff was born in Simi Valley, California, to Bill and Shari Wolff. He grew up in Agoura Hills, California, began playing junior golf at the Lindero Kids Summer Sports Camp at Lake Lindero Country Club and attended Westlake High School. He finished second at the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur Golf Championship. After initially committing to college golf for the University of Southern California, Wolff withdrew his commitment to attend Oklahoma State. In his first year, he earned four runners-up, All-American first-team awards and the Phil Mickelson Award for best freshman in the nation. He also made the putt to win the 2018 NCAA Division I championship for Oklahoma State. While attending Oklahoma State University, Wolff was also a member of the Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI) fraternity.

Wolff began his second season with back-to-back stroke play titles at the Carmel Cup and the OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational, which he followed by sharing medal honors at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. Three straight wins have put Wolff at the top of the college standings. He made his PGA Tour debut at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open after receiving a sponsor’s exemption.

In addition to his results, Wolff’s unorthodox swing caught the eye. To get more rotation, use a kick to the left leg that he picked up playing baseball and use the ground to create power.

Wolff turned professional in June 2019 and made his professional debut at the Travelers Championship.

On July 7, 2019, Wolff earned his first PGA Tour victory at the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. Wolff, 20, shot a 6-under 65 in the final round to beat Tour newcomer Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau by a shot at 21-under. The tournament arrived on the 72nd green. DeChambeau, playing a group ahead of Morikawa and Wolff, eagled on the 18th hole par-5 and took a one-shot lead. Wolff’s approach landed on the edge of the green, but he fed a 26-foot putt off the pin and into the hole to take the lead with an eagle of his own. Morikawa pushed his potential tying putt to the left and the victory was Wolff’s. The victory gave Wolff a two-year exemption from the PGA Tour, as well as a first-place finish of .152 million. Wolff was the first player since Billy Hurley III in 2016 to win after receiving a sponsor exemption. He was also the third player to win an NCAA title and a PGA Tour event in the same calendar year, joining Tiger Woods and Ben Crenshaw.
