Katie Kadan is a 38-year-old Chicago native who is making headlines as one of the contestants for The Voice Season 17. Katie, who is herself a musician, wowed the jury with her blind talk of Aretha Franklin’s “Baby I Love You,” which brought in four chair turns, although Kelly Clarkson was prevented from following Kadan by his colleague Blake Shelton. She chose John Legend as her coach.
Katie Kadan Career
According to Katie’s biography on The Voice’s official website, she had sung in church as a child but never had the confidence to sing herself. As she told the trainers during her Blind Audition, she felt like “a chubby girl living in the world of a skinny girl.”
“I was scared of it, I didn’t know how to start … [But] that’s the only thing I do really well,” she told the jam-TV show’s local Chicago talk show, adding that it was a local open mic night she thought was so good at the first session that she should come back every week.
After the age of 30, she slowly began to overcome her shyness and accept her gift. “Now I’m okay,” she told The Voice in her auditions. Since the fateful day when she performed live at the age of 30, Katie has been an aspiring blues/soul performer in the Chicago music scene. All you have to do is listen to her cover of Aretha Franklin to learn that Katie has a soul in her hands.
According to her official website, her voice is called “natural force” and her sound is described as a “blues-infused soul-bearing belt” that shows her “roots in the church” R&B to rock to songs of longing. ”
Katie Kadan Self-titled Album
Before The Voice, Katie recorded a self-titled album that fans can watch on her website, Spotify and Apple Music. It contains 11 original titles, including some rousing numbers called “Got You to Blame”, “Dancing On The Floor” and “Take Me to the River”.
Katie Kadan is also a pianist
She is also a classically trained pianist, similar to one of her greatest influences, Carole King. Her piano teacher Dennis Nuccio tells the Chicago Tribune that he immediately recognized her talent.
“How can I forget them?” Nuccio tells the gallery. “When she came to me, she could already play, she mostly played by ear and improvised and hit really well in the pocket. Some of these things you can’t learn with lessons. ”
Katie Kadan The Voice
In her Blind Auditions to The Voice, season 17, Katie chose John Legend as her coach. She beat the other powerhouses Destiny Rayne in Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” in the Battle Rounds and Max Boyle in the Knockout Round (although Boyle was stolen by Clarkson and also became a live show).
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET /PT on NBC.
Katie Kadan Family
A glance at Katie’s official Facebook page shows that family jams have always been a big part of her life and that her cousins and sister have had a big impact on her music.
“Her vision to expand her musical influence will be shared with her two great cousins Ray Bleth and Joshua Paul, as well as her great sister Sarah Kadan,” the Facebook post reads. “Of course she wanted them to be part of her art. It was a great blessing for Katie to play with them. ”
